Lend A Hand Program

Program designed to support newcomer, immigrant, and low-income senior women in building confidence, reducing isolation, learning digital skills, and becoming active Community Volunteers.

Objective of the program to provide digital literacy, community volunteering, finding volunteer roles and connecting participants with organizations.

  • Volunteering in Canada – its importance, types, and cultural perspectives.
  • Discovering skills and talents – self-reflection activities to build confidence.
  • Health and safety – basic safety and self-care while volunteering.
  • Digital skills – training on Zoom, email, and Google Maps (with tablets).
  • Building a volunteer resume – translating life experience into usable resumes.
  • Filling out applications – step-by-step practice with online forms.
  • Hands-on volunteering – a group trip to the Kitchener Food Bank where participants prepared 378 meals for community members.

62 participants completed the program learning new skills, value of volunteering and developing essential digital and communication skills and making friends.
